Your osm2pgsql does not support pbf files. You might have to install a newer version, or perhaps it is just a matter of a missing library (you seem to have compiled osm2pgsql from SVN, you will need libprotobuf-c0-dev version 0.14 or later installed or else it will compile without PBF support).
