Yes you can interrupt the indexing and then do a php utils/update.php --index --index-rank 27 to restart indexing from rank 27. Even if you were to restart from rank 26 it would know which elements have been indexed already but nonetheless I would suggest waiting until rank 26 is complete and then interrupt.
