Department of Geography, National University of Singapore
>
Faculty Position – Professor of Social/Cultural Geography

We invite applications for a professorial position to begin in July 2013 or as
soon as possible thereafter. The deadline for application is 25 May 2012.

The Department of Geography at the National University of Singapore offers
Bachelors, Masters and Doctoral degrees in Social Sciences and stands among the
top Geography departments in the world. Its teaching and research strengths are
in the areas of Social and Cultural Geographies; Politics, Economies, and
Space; and Tropical Environmental Change. The Department comprises an
international mix of about 30 faculty members; in terms of students, the
department has over 300 undergraduate majors and some 50 graduate students.
Graduate student recruitment has expanded over the past few years and the
Department continues to develop research agendas in the competitive global
academic arena, while maintaining a strong commitment to undergraduate
education.

Candidates should be able to provide academic leadership for research and
teaching in Social/Cultural Geography. We welcome applications from candidates
with expertise in any area of Social or Cultural Geography, but research and
teaching activities should complement and/or enhance existing activities of the
Department’s “Social and Cultural Geographies” research group. We particularly
encourage applicants with interests in urban studies, development studies
and/or environmental/social sustainability. Although previous experience of
researching in/on Asia is not essential, candidates must be able and willing to
develop research projects in the region.

Applicants should have a strong publication record (with evidence of a
continuing trajectory), extensive experience of teaching and graduate student
supervision, an internationally recognised research profile and a track record
in securing research funding. In terms of teaching and academic
responsibilities, the successful candidate will be expected to:
a. Teach at least two modules a year at the undergraduate and/or
graduate level.
b. Contribute to the Department’s internationally recognised
research activities.
c. Perform administrative duties commensurate with a professorial
appointment.

Interested candidates should submit their application (including a letter of
interest, full curriculum vitae, and names and contact details of 3 referees)
by 25 May 2012. Only shortlisted candidates will be notified and plans will be
made for a campus visit and interview. It is envisaged that these interviews
will take place in August and September 2012. A competitive remuneration
package, including a period of subsidised housing benefits, will be offered to
successful candidates.
