I agree with the sentiment, I usually don't even add the site:geoserver.org as most OGC related searches have a hit on our site anyways (good!). And also agree with the solution, I mean, it should not be that complex to implement, wouldn't it? We can start by having a non themed version of the results, and if there is time we can think about making it styled according to our site (provided that this is possible). But yeah, search is an important tool, so I'm very much +1 on fixing it so that it works (and then eventually spend some time to make it look good too).
