I will add to justin's feedback a little bit.

We usually handle developer (code and build issues here) and leave off
configuration to the geoserver users list.

Have you read the following page on configuring geoserver for production?
- http://geoserver.org/display/GEOSDOC/2.6+GeoServer+in+Production+Environment

There is also plenty of improvements to be had in optimizing your
styles for speed; and making use of simplified datasets at higher zoom
levels.
