Hi Alyssa, Welcome :). I looked through the doc sources you attached to the issue below and they looks really good, I did not go over it too closely but there definitely seems to be lots of material there, you have obviously been working hard.
As for getting you doc commit access, the steps outlined to get commit access are here: http://docs.geoserver.org/trunk/developer/policies/comitting.html Although at the moment it seems that server is down. But basically you need to set up a codehaus account, http://xircles.codehaus.org/, and then apply to join the geoserver project as a developer.
