It's possible to fix it if you can code javascript.  Or can fund a 
developer.  But it's just openlayers persistence of its style object in 
to SLD, so it needs to be taught to do pretty printing of XML.  Probably 
wouldn't take much work, but I'm pretty sure there's not a switch now to 
print it on multiple lines.
