Layers Preview crashing

I created a data store from a very large shapefile. Ever since, the layers
preview functionlity of GeoServer has not worked. I can no longer get
GeoServer WMS's list of capabilities either even after deleting my store,
stopping and restarting GeoServer. Instead, I get the following response from
WMS GetCapabilities request:
