Hi, in a production system we're setting up we have a cluster of GeoServer all sharing the same NFS mounted data directory. Generally it works fine but the log file is shared among all the instances, which is not exactly the best solution (as the writes will happen concurrently).
I think for this case the solution would be to allow the log file location to be specified by system variable, env variable or servlet context param, so that each instance can have its own separate log file. I've just posted a patch that appears to be working fine for review here: http://jira.codehaus.org/browse/GEOS-4334 I'd like to commit this on 2.1.x.
