WFS-T XML POST Fails

HTTP POST with text/xml (application/xml) content fails in GeoServer 2.1.2
In GeoServer 2.1.1 this works, but in 2.1.2 I fail to even get a response from
the server. This is run on a stock download using the attached files:
testTable.sql
input.xml (POST'd to
http://localhost:8080/geoserver/wfs?service=wfs&version=1.1.0&request=Transaction)
output_2_1_1.txt - output log from 2.1.1
output_2_1_2.txt - output log from 2.1.2 (transaction never completes,
nothing returned)
wfstest.zip - workspace files (except for datastore.xml) used in workspace
