There are two tutorials
1) AbstractDataStore
Tutorial<http://docs.geotools.org/latest/userguide/tutorial/abstractdatastore.html>

complete tutorial, but uses the older AbstractDataStore base class as a
starting point.
2) ContentDataStore
Tutorial<http://docs.geotools.org/latest/userguide/tutorial/contentdatastore.html>
-
tutorial only goes up to read-only, but uses the newer ContentDataStore
resulting in less code at the end of the day.
