some time ago we discussed the topic on subject here:

I've implemented the idea, with minor changes to the ProxyLayer interface
(the ConveyorTile has all that's needed) in
these two simple pull requests, complete with tests:

The GWC version in the GS pull request is 1.6.x-snapshot, we have the other
discussion about
which GWC version to use for 2.5-beta ongoing in another active thread
