It compiles, but I haven't tested if it actually works yet (I discovered that I don't actually have a local GDAL that includes the JNI bindings). I'm going to try and track down a version of GDAL for Mac that has what I need and see if I can test it out, but for now, the code has at least been donated to GeoServer.
