Well, for you you should never mix extensions built for one version of
GeoServer with a different version.
You should go and build yourself the proxy community module
from the geoserver trunk sources (as far as I can see it's not part
of the community modules built every night here:
http://gridlock.opengeo.org/geoserver/trunk/

That said, this gives you no guarantee it'll work, community modules
are such because they are not deemed
supported or stable enough to become extensions. Occasionally
they become unmaintained and stop working altogheter.
