Well, for you you should never mix extensions built for one version of GeoServer with a different version. You should go and build yourself the proxy community module from the geoserver trunk sources (as far as I can see it's not part of the community modules built every night here: http://gridlock.opengeo.org/geoserver/trunk/ That said, this gives you no guarantee it'll work, community modules are such because they are not deemed supported or stable enough to become extensions.
