I think the fact that "the_geom" is null has more weight. It looks like
LineString _can_ be substituted for GeometricPrimitivePropertyType:

Also the GeometricPrimitivePropertyType should be contained within
HY-P:geometry, e.g (3.2.1):

there is mention of "targetAttributeNode is required wherever a property
type contains an abstract element and app-schema cannot determine the
type of the enclosed attribute" but now I am guessing...
