Indeed, I'm using Chrome. After switching to FF the page is filling up nicely
with xml.

Empty page... are you getting the response from the browser and if so,
which broswer are you using?
Chrome by default is not able to display xml with syntax highlighting
and you get
what seems an (almost) empty page
