It means the previously associated style could not be found anymore. The styles are referred by id, the id of a style can be found in its xml file in the styles directory. The common cause for this is having some external tools writing down GS config files without a real understanding of how they are connected, or manual changes to the same files: neither of them are supported, changes to the config are supported only via the GUI or the RESTConfig extension.
