We will try that. 

First thing we wanted to do was move our data dir out of the default
location and up to a static folder so taht we can update the GS software a 
bit later. So we copied our data dir up and out.

Problem now is this:

We updated the web.xml with the data dir param
     <context-param>
       <param-name>GEOSERVER_DATA_DIR</param-name>
       <param-value>/deploy/geoserver_files/data</param-value>
    </context-param>

We kicked GS and the data_dir was till referencing  the old data_dir
location??!

Confused.

Ideas?
