Yes, And if that is not enough (depends on the amount of features) you could perhaps display a WMS-layer when zoomed out and switch to a WFS Vector layer when the user zooms in beyond a certain zoom level. The payload of the WMS-images are fairly constant at different zoomlevels/bboxes, the gml/geojson of WFS is absolutely not.
