Hi,

I think that we do have one use case that is pushing the result to the disk 
instead of sending it to web server: WCS 1.1.1 GetCoverage with &store=yes.

Adapt the system a to support &store=yes also with WMS and with big GeoTIFF 
output or MBTiles

GeoPackage 
http://docs.geoserver.org/stable/en/user/community/mbtiles/output.html  this 
might make some users happy.
