Ciao Jose, I think we should simply preventing users from applying this functionality when the underlying data does not suppport it, instead of throwing a misteryous error afterwards.
Since I guess you are new to the project, may I ask you to register on our JIRA instance and create an issue for this enhancement? I will ask one of our guys to make a small change for this.
