so I did a quick test and it seems to be working fine here, so I was not able 
to reproduce your issue.

Looking at your stack trace it looks like GeoWebCache was involved when it 
shouldn't be. Recently
there was some fixes related to GeoWebCache \ GeoServer spring contexts 
integrations, you may
be experiencing something similar.

If my memory serves me well it was some community modules that where causing 
the issue, so you
may want to check which community modules are installed on the server ... and 
then try one by one
to see if one of them is causing the issue. This may why the issue only happens 
on the server ...
