Hi Pietro, I believe all the limitations you've pointed at are still there. Only one way to get them realized, someone has to contribute them, either directly using <https://github.com/geoserver/geoserver/blob/master/CONTRIBUTING.md> their own organization programming effort <https://github.com/geoserver/geoserver/blob/master/CONTRIBUTING.md>, or by sponsoring a commercial support provider <http://geoserver.org/support/> to implement them.
I have the impression this has not been done yet because there are many small companies/organizations interested in the functionality, but they are individually too small to take on the sponsorship by themselves. A group effort needs to be organized, and it would be best if it was organized from the ground up, from the users benefiting from it themselves.
