Hi Scott, the nearest match is something that you have to enable explicitly, so it won't be available if you don't enable it. The default value is always there, but you can specify a value by hand that does not match anything. In recent versions of GeoServer, you can match that with having GeoServer throw an InvalidDimensionException when there is no match: https://docs.geoserver.org/latest/en/user/services/wms/webadmin.html#dimensions-settings
That's for WMS.
