Jody,

Thanks for the good ideas.

Can you explain a bit further how the "Interface/factory breakdown" you
proposed would work?
I really do need to - I have explained it a couple times now in different contexts (Filter needs this idea as well).

I started trying to respond to this - but it is worth making a geotools article about it.
Here is the link:

Any spell checking would be cool. Justin this is a challenge to you - you have not gotten your blog set up yet? There is a section in that article where we need to talk about containers :-)
In any case, it looks like the refactoring of the SLD system is targeted
in the 2.2.x geotools branch (er...isn't 2.2.x the trunk?) and so will
not be immediately available to geoserver, no?
GeoServer 1.3.0 is exepcted to finish anyday now (and has for months), as I understand it plenty of branches are proceeding along in a happy fashion. Chris Holmes just set up a page so they can increase their visibility. I kind of wish GeoServer 1.3.0 would grab a stable branch for their release, and leave trunk open to you guys. But I don't have a GeoServer project to hack
on right now ...
If you can give me a good idea of how and where to fit in the
label-shields implementation into the new system, I'll get to it as soon
as I have both time and a way to verify working-ness via geoserver.
Read the article, I included label shields in it just for you. The long and short of it is your patch will go right where it is now. It is the rest of the system that needs to bend out of the way to allow for such things.

Jody
