3) While I can see how the following gets us the result, are we merely
being satisfied with getting "any source of shapefile data"? Are we
assuming there is only one and this is the way to get it?

handle.resolve(ShapefileDataStore.class,listener);
What if we have 3 different sources of shapefile data, do we then need
to use an URI/L reference? If so, what would the equivalent statement
be?
Perhaps this is the structure to get a service as against getting a
resource. I was confusing the two. I need to read more...
