SVN is now in the 1.4 series. The 1.0, 1.1 and 1.2 series are no longer supported.
According the release notes http://subversion.tigris.org/svn_1.4_releasenotes.html in section "Binary Delta Encoding Improvements", the 1.4 series can produces binary diff up to 50% smaller than previous SVN series. Note sure if it apply to us (I believe that we added much more binaries files than we updated them), but given that the big size of Geotools SVN repository is partially caused by binaries files, it may worth a try.
