In addition of what Cory said, there is also a "widgets-swing" module in Geotools. This module already provides some Swing widgets. It existed before uDig and Geowidget and is stable. It doesn't contains a lot of widgets however. http://javadoc.geotools.fr/snapshot/org/geotools/gui/swing/package-summary.html (the classes without documentation are from mappane which share the same package name, not widget-swing).
