Looking through the functions involved in the GeoVista Studio color brewer code, there's only one (a classification function within Studio) that uses Feature.getParent().  Replacing it with one of the classification functions in org\geotools\filter\function should work.  So Studio will be able to adjust easily enough to the loss of Feature.getParent().

OK I've put this on to my todo list - though we're still using 2.2.x
at the moment we should certainly look at an upgrade soon.
