Okay I hear you - no more complaining until GeoServer trunk on trunk is viable. Got it. Moving on. (I have never had an opportunity to work on the 2.3.x branch, so the grid coverage support on trunk is all I have seen.)
What was startling me here was that something that was functioning last week no longer does; I do wish I had more details to offer. It could be the jars were re-deployed and only just picked up by udig trunk. I am building geotools trunk on my local machine now; so my test actually reflects trunk on trunk now. For reference I have now restarted my machine; so we can rule out Jesse's reboot required JAI operation comment for now.
