Jan, in the specific of Geoserver, and if you'll be using Geoserver 
1.5.0 up, you can always add your own EPSG code to the extension 
property file. The only trouble is, that file is just an add on, not an 
override, so if you need to override an EPSG definiton, you're lost.

Yet, adding another property file that acts as an override would not be 
difficult, if you really need it.
