aaim1: 1) chat
aaim1: ok, this is done, or do we want to add anything?
jgarnett: nope I am good - a bit distressed cleaning style but whatever
jgarnett: 2) meeting time
sfarber: Umm...I'll throw one out there: Did the org.geotools.forceXY... bug
get fixed on trunk?
jgarnett: 1 hour ago; 'nuff said?
jgarnett: sfarber - yes it did
sfarber: sweet, thanks.
jgarnett: I am still not content ... turning Hints shows up some problems.
jgarnett: but forceXY works.
jgarnett: what are you up to these days Saul?
sfarber: recovering from a trip to Vegas...err, trying to write code that will
act as a consistent client to GS 1.5.x and 1.6.x.
sfarber: Also the A/C on our server room blew up over the weekend so I've been
putting fans into windows. It's fun.
jgarnett: joy
sfarber: AKA - not much.
jgarnett: the client stuff sounds interesting; learning anything?
aaim1: Oh, does Vista run better with a fan in it???
aaim1: :-)
sfarber: Yeah, 1.5.x is a lot 'nicer' about accepting invalid requests.
jgarnett: The "benifit" of additional cite tests I am sure
sfarber: 1.6.x really makes sure your request is well-constructed.
sfarber: Yeah, and also distinguishing between 1.1 and 1.0 WFS requests means
you have to be a bit nitpicky.
aaim1: Yeah, cite tests are getting stricter and stricter about checking you
don't accept malformed reqeusts
aaim1: There's logic in that... incorrect requests are not portableù
jgarnett: I got a silly question: how far along is our CRS stuff? I know we
represent everything in the EPSG database; but I get the impression we do not
support it all. Something like additional MathTransformations ... any idea what
we are missing?
aaim1: We're missing stuff for polar mapping
aaim1: stereographic is not working properly afaik
aaim1: and we can't parse a few CRS used in that area
aaim1: 80 out of 3000 if I remember properly
aaim1: Anyways, back to the meeting?
aaim1: if no-one has voted against moving the meeting earlier
aaim1: shall we take the motion as accepted
aaim1: ?
cholmes_: yes
aaim1: Helloooooo :-)
sfarber: Err, who gets to say "yes" You need a certain number of PMC votes,
right?
simboss: I am fine with that
jgarnett: yep
aaim1: Yep
jgarnett: and any PMC that wants to make the call -
jgarnett: so I just "did"
jgarnett: (sent the email and update the developers guide)
aaim1: I second
aaim1: Cool, thank you
aaim1: So, next topic?
aaim1: 3) Style
jgarnett: Right ...
jgarnett: Here is a proposal -
http://docs.codehaus.org/display/GEOTOOLS/Update+Style+Interfaces+to+use+GeoAPI+Filter
jgarnett: And I would like to commit ...
jgarnett: this falls in line with getting rid of the use of
org.geotools.filter.Expression
jgarnett: (basically I would like to use geotools without deprecated messages)
aaim1: Well... hum...
aaim1: I think we need to do that
aaim1: I'm just concerned about one
aaim1: bit
aaim1: Geoserver trunk does not display anymore labels
aaim1: I would not add any more stuff into the source repo before we fixed that
aaim1: (but as I said, I won't be able to work on gt2/gs for the next 4 days)
jgarnett: darn I need to find Jesse
jgarnett: (he changed labeling and asked for feedback - did you contact him?)
aaim1: Yup, I did
jgarnett: any answers?
aaim1: he'll probably have a look at that tonight (canadian time)
jgarnett: I see
jgarnett: well I would like to vote on this one (so I can commit tonight)
jgarnett: I will ask Jesse for a code review first
aaim1: Cool... try it out a little
aaim1: we don't really have good tests for styling
jgarnett: and if you insist I can try and wait for him to get his labels to go.
jgarnett: well I will run the result in uDig trunk
jgarnett: and geoserver
jgarnett: before I commit.
aaim1: Cool
aaim1: So you'll see the new openlayers preview :)
jgarnett: joy :-)
jgarnett: we will have to update the uDig walkthough eventually I guess.
jgarnett: so proposal ....
jgarnett: jody +1
aaim1: aaime +1 (provided it does not mess up too much trunk)
jgarnett: nope - the code is looking much more clean
sfarber: hey aaim1, what's the name of the "openlayers" outputformat?
aaim1: openlayers
aaim1: Anyways, just look at the map preview
aaim1: the links now are GetMap requests
aaim1: (don't expect to see tiling thought, I disabled it because it breaks
labelling for the moment)
sfarber: wow. very cool.
jgarnett: I see
jgarnett: Um Jesse is also working on trunk now; he has been mostly cleaning up
FilterVisitors and so on ... just as he finds problems in uDig.
jgarnett: I am not sure that Justin's FiltreVisitor wrapper is still working
... I am seeing more problems then I remember in this area.
jgarnett: jdeolive ... you get to vote now?
jgarnett: simboss? jdeolive ...
aaim1: Ha, working on filters is still a nightmare
aaim1: that's why I asked for a blocker
jdeolive: +1
aaim1: about upgrading thme
jgarnett: good on ya
simboss: +0
cholmes_: +1
aaim1: That's as much as you can get I think
aaim1: No Martin
aaim1: and IanT is not here
jgarnett: cool.
jgarnett: 4) FOSS4G Presentations
jgarnett: So I talked to James ... he is thinking of using some "demo time" to
highlight the SoC projects.
jgarnett: It remains a question of what we want to do for presentations ... the
first batch is submitted and some may be approved shortly.
simboss: when is the deadline?
jgarnett: I understand the final deadline is not right away. But I would like
us to have a consistent story.
jgarnett: http://www.foss4g2007.org/important_dates/
jgarnett: June 29th
jgarnett: Do we want to encourage SoC students to submit an application for
proposal?
simboss: thx
jgarnett: (heck are there any SoC students here?)
jgarnett: Let me put it this way - I wont be doing any presentation. I would be
open to sharing a presentation with someone - but other than that I am booked
up.
jgarnett: I suppose this will be a case of dexiding in late June?
jgarnett: Is there anything we would like to talk about? Or are interested in
seeing?
simboss: the problem on our side
simboss: it that
simboss: 1>we still don't know if we'll have time 2>it might be expensive
aaim1: Hum... it's hard to make a presentation on a library
jgarnett: simboss++ (I understand)
aaim1: that is, how do you present it?
jgarnett: aaim1++ (I understand)
aaim1: We have big apps ok
aaim1: but we don't have nice little demos
jgarnett: Well there all manner of presentations
aaim1: So, we could do a "Geotools past, present and future"
jgarnett: if I was simboss I would do a presentation branded with his company
jgarnett: basically showing how smart he is
simboss: I would do the same :-)
jgarnett: and how to do "lightning fast raster access in java"
jgarnett: maybe showing some geoserver / mapserver performance numbers
aaim1: I'm working on them :)
jgarnett: case studies are great; what work has axios done recently? Lean
anything ...
jgarnett: even a presentation on how you *measure* WMS / WFS performacne would
be a good call ...
jgarnett: 10 mins on how to test, 10 mins on the interesting result, and a bit
of Q&A
aaim1: Hum... and you have to be a very good presenter to avoid having the
audience sleep at the end of that :-)
jgarnett: I would love a presentation on WFS 1.1 (and how to use the GML
parser) ... but I think Justin will have his hands full data wrangling
jgarnett: aaim1 I am not sure; Brock did a similar presentation at FOSS4G 2004
and it was well recieved (partly because people are trying to figure out what
platform to use)
aaim1: Ah, I see
jgarnett: If anything more details into how the testing is done (so the results
can be understood) would be better.
jgarnett: simboss - your raster stuff rocks :-)
simboss: I hope we will be able to talk about
jgarnett: I hope you get a chance to download udig trunk and see it.
simboss: the new plugins we have
simboss: lately not much geotools-geoserver-work unfortunately :-(
jgarnett: That would be cool; once again this is a developers conference ...
you can talk about stuff like that.
jgarnett: simboss ++ (of course if you don't talk it is hard to get more work)
jgarnett: simboss you should consider doing one of those OSGeo "spotlights"
simboss: I cannot get more work
simboss: we already have more than we can handle :-(
jgarnett: ha ha
simboss: we don't manage to find help
simboss: I mean
simboss: people to hire
jgarnett: Darn; one of the swiss guys was looking for work. I wish I knew you
were looking.
jgarnett: He was good, we offered him a Job on this end but he likes Europe.
jgarnett: But yes; finding people is always hard.
jgarnett: Well hopefully these SoC students will turn out okay.
rgould: jgarnett: Thomas and Stefan? They both have work right now
jgarnett: To sum up; we have a lot of really cool stuff going on. I am sure
(even if it is a library) there is something worth talking about.
rgould: i heard from thomas last friday that he found a position
jgarnett: ha - once again we are too slow. Congrats to Thomas.
jgarnett: Okay I am going to go back to hacking ...
jgarnett: unless there is anything more?
aaim1: Not really
simboss: not from my side
simboss: or better
simboss: if you have 5 minutes
simboss: there is something I wanted to ask
simboss: out
simboss: of the logs :-)
