We kind of informally decided at an IRC meeting that geoserver trunk 
would be lagging behind a little bit as current trunk (1.6.x) is not 
ready to go stable yet. So the plan is to branch 1.6.x when we get to 
the first release candidate stage... at which point gs trunk will be 
back on gt trunk.

Agreed... and as part of ows4 i did a major round of performance testing 
on it... but there can always be more. I have been meaning to move this 
to supported in geotools for some time now but have not quite found the 
time to do it yet...
