I would like to do both; Johann's code had some good strategies for
rendering which I was very impressed with; but many of the user
interface dialog confusing to read through.

A bit of both; lets start very small with a clean documented JMapPane
that we are happy showing Andrea. I really like the idea of moving
swing code into the module it makes use of. I also would like to move
the style model out of main and into rendering; although that may be a
harder sell.
