Hi all, as per the modules cleanup thread, I'm willing to take responsibility of the gt-wfs module, if nobody objects.
sigh, gonna go to the point since the message ended up being quite large: - ok for me to step up as wfs maintainer? - - what's the plan for libray/xml? If you want to read it all: Right now the module contains the old and loved WFS 1.0 datastore support and the new and still not that hardly tested WFS 1.1.0 support. Both are based on different underlying xml tech. The former on the library/xml module, the later on the extension/xsd framework. My first action as formal maintainer would be to move it to unsupported, as I think that better reflects the state of affairs with the module. And express my intention to bring it back to supported, but for real. In any case, one of my main plans for the wfs datastore is to port the current 1.0.0 support to the new gt-xsd based framework I was setting up while developing the 1.1 support. If that succeeds, that'll mean the only module still depending on library/xml will be wms. Is that a concern at all? As for library/xml, am I right that the only active developer that has a good understanding of it is Jody? It sort of seems like willing to die but nobody has the energy to port whatever still uses it to the new standard geotools tech for xml (gt-xsd). Is that right? Jody, are you confident library/xml can be kept "supported"? If I am right, and looked correctly for it references, the only ones that still use it are the wfs and wms modules. And since I realize both wms and wfs are such an important part of geotools by the functionality they provide, I think I'm calling to start the long awaited debate "are we ready to get down to a single xml tech in geotools, and hence minimize the maintainance headache?" (we'll that's not quite fair, we also have FilterSaxParser etc around yet, I know). I may be getting it all wrong and libray/xml may be meant to stay there and supported for the foreseeable future. Is it?
