I was actually going to ask - could we take the build instructions into the 
user guide - and version them with each release of GeoTools?

That way we could run with *just* a "latest" developers guide reflecting our 
procedures as a project. And it would make it less crazy to update as each 
change to the developers guide basically needs a vote.

Your request to have a "simple build", followed by "magical build variations" 
is a good one. Splitting up the two would be a good idea.
