Hi Jody,

I'm not sure of legal implication but could we remove the license altogether.

It states in the license 'Pass it off as your own'.

I think that removing this unusual license would fall under this allowance.
Also it doesn't say that the Happy Fun Ball License must be retained as some
more established licenses state.

I think we have the freedom to do this in this case.

Just my 2 cents,

Brett

Jody,

I am afraid I don't have contact with this Mike.

PS. Don't taunt Happy Fun Ball.

Looks like some evidence of the author operating on the GDAL project in 2008,
perhaps Frank knows him?

So the location tech migration is moving along fairly well for uDig, to the
point where I have been submitting dependencies for review by the eclipse
foundation. The review goes through the files (much like we did for OSGeo
incubation) and in addition looks at the governance procedures around accepting
new contributions.

(A separate team at IBM china is also performing a review, which is where the
various header fixes has been coming from - hopefully that is now at an end).

On the positive side these are two reviews that have a line of communication
open, and are a good sanity check of the work we did for OSGeo incubation.

Which brings us to the Happy Fun Ball License[1]: GeoTiffIIOMetadataDecoder.java

While I am quite happy this is not a surprise, and is captured in our docs[2],
it nevertheless not a normal license.

Anyone know the history of how we got a hold of this file? Was it contributed
directly to GeoTools, or was based an existing library for reading GeoTiff
headers.

I should also ask if anyone knows Mike Nidel personally, or how he feels about
modifying the associated license.
