I think we are over the difficult part of the transition, changing the
compiler to source 1.7 has trickled down to GeoWebCache and uDig (at least
on a branch).
I have updated the build instructions here:

Last step is a blog post? Or just save it until 11.x is announced.
Aside: A recent email thread on JTS pointed out that Java 7 uses TimSort
(rather than MergeSort) by default. Why do we care -- because it can catch
us out if any of our compare methods are written incorrectly.
