see https://github.com/geotools/geotools/pull/1066 - which creates a new unsupported geojson datastore which reads and writes from URL/files which contain FeatureCollections - I might extend it to handle simple features at some point. Currently one of it's unit tests fails because I don't entirely understand Jody's CSVtests that I've tested.
