The problem was a redundant cast that referenced an import removed by the fix for GEOT-5595. On master and 16.x the redundant cast was removed by: squid:S1905 - Redundant casts should not be used https://github.com/geotools/geotools/commit/4e06357e84a4bab561118df25920af461a7374f6
