Also note that if all your looking to do is put images of cell towers on, GeoTools will support that with SLD. Instead of using a well known mark for a point, you can just point at an external graphic. So you just need a nice graphic (png, jpeg, ect.) of the tower, and then customize your sld to point at it.

Eric,

Depending on your licencing requirements you have a couple options. I would
look into either borrowing code from GeoServer (if you wish to follow the
GPL) or using GeoServer to serve up images to your applet (it would be
installed as a stand-alone server which you hit from your applet, probably
from the same WebServer). This second option is a bit more fragile, but
involves alot less coding on your part (I think there might already be some
applet code around too, just search for it depending again on your
licencing).

Cheers,

I am looking over GeoTools for use in a web based application. The first
pass on the application will comprise 3 layers: base layer is a grid area
with grid cell size of 100mX100m, next layer is a wireframe shape (ESRI or
otherwise for roads, waterways, etc.), and the top layer being cell base
stations. Looking over GeoTools appears to show that the bottom 2 layers
are well supported. However, I am unsure about presenting the cell base
stations. Would anyone have a comment about what would be involved in
integrating the drawing of something like this, or perhaps integrating it as
an image. Perhaps I am not looking in the right place in the
tutorials/snippets.

Also, are there any particular issues that need specifically to be
addressed when using GeoTools in an applet based application?

Thanks
