Hi,

is there support in geotools to build a (simple) catalog client? I found
the catalog package but it seems to be incomplete or at least more geared towards development of a catalog service.
Andreas I took 3 months on a paid project to try and build just such a thing. At the time there were not enough details on how a catalog could possibly work. The interfaces in the catalog api are actually used by uDig in there code based on a couple of very simple catalogs.

If you have an actual catalog to test against and wanted to start building queries and parsing the results I would be happy to walk you through which one of those classes would be appropriate for which result.

More importantly you will find the metadata api for some of the ISO constructs you need, to query against. And currently we have no definition of the records that are returned.

I think there are two standards to chase:
- Some based on the ISO metadata standards
- Some based on Dublin core metadata standards

This is an area I am quite excited about, but have not had time to work on yet. I would be very supportive of any effort working on these ideas.
