The issue has been fixed. I suggest to checkout and build 2.2.x by yourself. It has only minor changes (bug fixes) and I don't know when 2.2.3 will be released (somewhere in the future when there's a push to release Geoserver 1.4.1 or a new uDig release, which may both well be one/two months away).
