Hello :-)

You are welcome to translate the documentation into French; there is 
actually a strong french connection for GeoTools (one of the companies 
that takes part if called GeoMatys and they have produced some french 
documentation in the past).

Please understand that GeoTools (and GeoServer) are mostly done by 
volunteers; and consultants working to produce specific functionality - 
it is very rare that anyone will pay to have documentation written. So 
documentation really is a community driver / volunteer task.

Most of the geotools user guide is written in response to question on 
the geotools user list for example.

If you would like to translate the documentation into french please 
attend one of our weekly IRC meetings and we can look into providing 
facilities for your work.
