Writing HDF is a very generic statement. HDF4 or HDF5? What kind of
metadata? Etc. etc.
You need to be more specific I guess.



1> Imageio-Ext supports reading some types of HDF4 (hdf5 could be supported)

2> GeoTools trunk has some experimental coverage code to turn some
flavours of HDF4 files into coverage that can be then served via
GeoTools/GeoServer.

3> Writing can be done via JHDF (not a fan of that lib) or netCDF lib
(much better).
