Can you go through the ImageLab example? It should allow you to display something on the screen? You can use the same approach to make a MapContext that displays the image at the scale/resolution you desire. You can save the resulting image out.
This is not recommended; the idea of resampling to a fixed resolution is much better; the above idea is only a hack/workaround.
