I've written a simple application for importing data in a particular format
and converting it to a shapefile. The aim is to simply a lengthy work-flow
where my client currently manually hacks away at a text file, stripping the
header and adjusting the columns ready for importing as XY data into ArcMap,
then exporting as a shapefile. This results in a shapefile in which the line
ordering remains intact.

I agree that the ordering of the shapefile isn't really important, but it
would be *nice* for my client to have the same result at the end of both
workflows.

So if it is possible, and there existing methods in GeoTools to acheive it,
then I'd like to give it a try. Even if it does mean slowing down the
application a bit. If not then I'll just stick in an ID number so that the
rows can be sorted to their original order if need be.

Thanks.
