As long as the function references the attributes as parameters it can make use 
of them. Remember that the functions (and CQL) are designed independently from 
the idea of a feature; they can actually be used on normal Java beans, 
java.util.Map and so forth.

The rendering system processes the SLD prior to making a request for the 
feature; and only asks for the attributes that are actually referred to.
