Okay, it's looking like TopologyPreservingSimplifier is what I need. However, a question: how do I determine what value to use for the distance tolerance? The only example I found used a value of 0.1, so I don't know if that simplifies to 0.1 (meters/feet/whatever), or it means something else. In general, I'm happy with 1.5 Meters or 5 feet or so.
