Looking at the error trace, it seems that the map pane is trying to process a mouse event, via the MapToolManager class which looks after cursor tools, but can't convert the mouse window position to world position because no AffineTransform has been set in the MapViewport class. I'm afraid I'm at a loss to understand what's going on here. The GeoTools example apps all follow much the same use of JMapFrame / JMapPane and MapContent classes. Also I would have expected such a problem to affect everyone, but no one else has reported this error (yet) and I still can't reproduce it here. I guess it could be a platform-specific problem. Could you let me know what OS and Java version you are working with please. Also, if you haven't already, please try the CRSLab example and see if that displays the same problem. This is one of the example which hasn't changed recently.
